Discovery Wine Box – Spanish Reds

Intense black fruit and warm spice, good depth of flavour with some balancing freshness and supple tannins. A very approachable yet classic Crianza. This wine pairs well with roast chicken and game, meaty pasta and hard cheeses.

Delicately fragrant with layers of wild flowers and ripe red berries, backed by hints of spice from its brief time in French oak. A typically subtle and elegant style of Mencia.

Produced from organically grown vines cultivated on dry hillside slopes in Jumilla. The grapes are handpicked, and after maceration with the skins for around two weeks at a controlled temperature, the wine is deposited in stainless steel tanks.

Complex nose of ripe plums and rich berry fruit, with notes of fig. On the palate the wine is generous, rich and spicy - with concentrated bramble fruit, evident tannins, a note of black pepper and fresh acidity on the finish.

Drink this with grilled meat, dishes with creamy sauces or goats cheese.

A gorgeous appealing juicy, smoky, modern Ribera del Duero. Aromas of fresh red berry fruits - balanced with notes of oak. On the palate ripe black fruit flavours and a touch of liquorice balance the tight tannins. Lovely with steak or duck cooked with a pepper sauce.

Set up in 2001 by a group of growers in the Peñafiel district, a privileged zone within DOC Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Pinna Fidelis produces stunning expressions of the local Tinta del Pais variety. Located in town of Peñafiel itself, where the Duero and Duratón rivers converge, Pinna Fidelis has modern winemaking facilities and a philosophy based on simplicity. It has gone from strength to strength and strives to improve with every vintage - we look forward to continuing the journey with them!

Catalan Eagle takes its name from the bird that soars above the nature reserve close to the winery.

Pepe Fuster makes wine from his 26 hectare vineyard in Terra Alta which is near Tarragona in southern Catalonia. The vineyard is organically certified and the Catalan Eagle red wine was fully certified from 2012 onwards.

Catalan Eagle red is the partner to the highly successful organic Catalan Eagle white. Savoury, minerally flavours from old vine Garnacha and Cariñena. This complements the smokiness and backbone of the Syrah and Cabernet.

A month's contact with French oak staves after fermentation and prior to blending adds a touch of vanilla and complexity. Principally limey, stoney and clay soil mix.

Smooth, ripe tannins mean the wine can be drunk on its own but particularly good with barbecued meats and chorizo sausage feasts.

Weighty with sweet ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit and warm vanilla oak spice. The oak contact gives this wine a new world feel whilst remaining firmly and typically Spanish from the character of old-vine Grenache and Carinena.

A really good crowd pleasing red from a rising star of a winery based in Rioja, but rapidly expanding into all areas of Spain.
