The Wine Box
Terrane Sauvignon Mauzac Labastide 75cl
This innovative co-op is based in the village of Marssac-sur-Tarn, some 15 miles to the east of Gaillac. Founded in 1949 the company supports 200 growers from around the region and makes an excellent range of reds, whites and roses from their modern cellars situated in the heart of the village. Their wines cover 2 main appellations: Gaillac and Vin de Pays de Cotes de Tarn and a variety of ancient, indigenous grape varieties are used including Mauzac, Loin de l'Oeil and Braucol. This particular white is made from the rather more orthodox Sauvignon Blanc grape and is fresh and round with plenty of citrus fruit flavours.
A bright pale-straw in colour. On the nose, notes of passion fruit and gooseberries. On the palate, ripe and juicy with an expressive minerality leading to a crisp finish. Lovely food wine with chilled avocado soup, sea bass fillets with fennel and a tarragon jus or grilled goats cheese with marinated beetroot.
